Chloe Cole Warns of Gender-Affirming Care for Minors at GVSU

More than 50 people gathered to hear Chloe Cole share her personal journey.

Allendale - Grand Valley State University (GVSU), Chloe Cole spoke to students, faculty, and community members about her dedication to protecting minors from transgender medical interventions. At twenty years old, Cole has gained national attention for her outspoken stance against youth gender transition procedures.

"I have spent my adult life dedicated to protecting children from radical transgender interventions," Cole stated directly. She shared her personal experiences openly, recounting childhood sexual abuse and struggles with femininity, arguing that the medical system exploited her vulnerability by pushing irreversible treatments she now calls "medical child abuse."

Cole addressed the audience, and particularly during the Q&A session, responding clearly to questions challenging her warnings. Cole emphasized the importance of openly discussing these sensitive topics, demonstrating her dedication to the cause.

Near the end of her speech, Cole cited Ephesians 6:12, discussing the spiritual component of her journey. She credited finding faith in Christ with giving her clarity and purpose, saying,

"Through Jesus, I realized God created me special, in His image."

Her message challanged adults to protect young people from harmful practices. "Everyone deserves a world where children are neither mutilated nor exploited," Cole emphasized.

The event faced opposition. About fifty protesters converged near the clock tower (center of campus), chanting F__K TRUMP and playing loud music in protest of Cole's appearance. Campus police were on hand to maintain order and ensured the safety of all attendees. GVSU had a significant administrative presence both inside and outside the building, with at least ten administrators on hand, including some vice presidents and their staff, to oversee and manage the event. Turning Point GVSU President Andreanna LaRue, who invited Chloe Cole to speak, stated,

"Turning Point plans to host more events in Michigan and the local area in the near future."

Cole’s appearance coincided with broader statewide controversy. Michigan healthcare provider Corewell Health recently defied a Trump administration order designed to limit gender-affirming care for minors. Initially complying with the federal directive, Corewell reversed its decision after pressure from more than forty Michigan-based organizations advocating continued treatment access for minors. Corewell Health’s Helen DeVos Children's Hospital and Michigan State University College of Human Medicine continue to actively collaborate, promoting gender-affirming care services and content.

These discussions represent a healthy discourse occurring more frequently nationwide as society begins to grapple with the implications of "gender-affirming" care for minors. Cole emphasized the need for continued vigilance, cautioning that even favorable political shifts should not lead to complacency. Before her appearance at GVSU, Cole spoke with lawmakers in Washington, D.C., sharing her personal experiences to highlight the potential harms associated with youth gender-transition procedures.
