Local Gun Show Draws Thousands, Dubbed Smashing Success

Individuals and families from West Michigan attended a packed-out Great Lakes Gun Show at Rivertown Crossings Mall.

The line for entering the second Grandville Gun Show of 2025 was out the door and down the sidewalk on Saturday, March 8, 2025.

The former Younkers Department Store in Grandville, Michigan was overflowing with people excited to attend the show with their friends and family. The new show managers expected over 4,000 people to attend, including law enforcement, firearm enthusiasts, families with children, and more.

There are thousands of gun shows in America every year. Michigan is no exception, and for good reasons. Firearm ownership is popular in Michigan, and over 10% of Michigan adults have a concealed pistol license (CPL) according to the Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners (MCRGO).

The total number of permits in Michigan hit an all-time high of 858,383 as of March 1, 2025.

Gun show managers said attendance was “amazing” and better than expected. The admission fee is $10.00 per person. Kids are free and families are encouraged to attend.

Each person entering the building was asked if they had any firearms. Loaded guns were cleared by security and unloaded. Attendees can bring their personal firearms to sell or to verify the fitment of parts, accessories, and holsters.

I spoke to several people about their experience and received smiles and positive responses. People liked the fact that over 400 vendors attended. Another favorite was the accessories like knives and military collectibles.

Grandville police officers told show managers they were happy the show was happening again, and officers stopped by and walked around the show. People were smiling and talkative, enjoying the camaraderie of like-minded firearm enthusiasts, training booths, and thousands of guns for sale.

The biggest challenge of the event was parking. People parked in front of Younkers and around other sections of the mall. Attendees were mostly from West Michigan, especially Kent and Ottawa counties, and show managers told The Hollander that vendors came as far as Georgia, Kentucky, and Indiana.

Three more shows are planned for Michigan this year in Macomb County, Pontiac, and Barry County, with more coming in 2026. You can find details and dates at https://greatlakesgunshows.com.
