Holland locals have been eagerly awaiting the grand opening of Love’s new scoop shop located at 5 W 8th Street, Downtown Holland. Chris McKellar, founder of Love’s, along with the rest of the Love’s team, is excited to share that at 12:00 pm on August 15th, their doors will officially be open—ready to welcome the public with open arms and shining ice cream scoops.
Earlier this week, The Hollander staff got a sneak peak of the new space. The building is warm and inviting: decadent without feeling over the top, nostalgic without feeling old-timey, and classically intentional. Jake Stacy, COO, shared that they wanted to design their bar seating as a nod to the classic 1950s soda counter. The design instantly makes customers feel like leaning in, sipping something sweet, and chatting with a friend (old or new).
The soda counter is unique to the Holland scoop shop. Loyal customers of Love’s may be familiar with the floats and milkshakes, but they’ll have to come check out the Holland location to taste the new sodas. “We will have some classic soda fountain drinks such as a Lime Rickey, we will incorporate phosphate's for the classic punch of soda fountain drinks, and we will continue to serve our popular floats in addition to some new flavors… all while maintaining the Love's quality. No preservatives, nothing artificial, just real food. Real good,” Stacy said.
The Love’s team is thrilled to have Christina Hutton, local West Michigan artist, curate a gorgeous interior mural for their Holland scoop shop. The details of the project are still being finalized, but Holland locals can look forward to seeing what Hutton creates.

The team at Love’s can’t wait to greet and treat you on Saturday, August 15th. Whether it’s a strawberry milkshake, a scoop of caramel peanut butter cookie ice cream, or a float with one of the new sodas, you’re sure to be delighted by Love’s high quality, no short-cuts, extra creamy and totally delicious desserts.
Following the grand opening, Love’s will be open Sunday–Wednesday from noon to 9:00 pm and Thursday–Saturday from noon to 10:00pm. We can’t wait to see you there!
