Allendale Finally Gets an Urgent Care

Up until now, Allendale residents requiring urgent medical care needed patience, grit, and a high tolerance for pain—a walk-in appointment typically was at least twenty to thirty minutes away. That all changes Monday, November 2, when the doors officially open to the new Trinity Health Medical Center.

With Allendale’s growing population of over 27,000, sports teams ranging from little league to college football, a climate prompting various immune responses, and a perpetual cycle of new and inexperienced drivers, injuries and illnesses are going to happen. Having no convenient urgent medical care has been one of the tradeoffs to living in this town.

But on Monday, November 2, non-life-threatening urgent care needs, plus x-rays and general care, at last can be handled within the township. And judging by the turnout at the open house, residents are more than a little excited about their new neighbor.

No stranger to Allendale, Trinity previously ran a clinic for Grand Valley State University. Director of Operations Ronda Ake explained, “The partnership ended—on a good note—and we said, ‘You know what? We can’t leave. We love this area.’” She went on to say that with Allendale being a growing community and Trinity being family oriented, her team felt it would be a good fit.

After a year of looking, Trinity found property on Edgewater Drive, just behind McDonald's. The operations team then began figuring out what services would best fit the Allendale community. From working with Grand Valley, Ake knew the township needed an urgent care. While it won’t be open 24/7, walk-ins will be seen every day—even on most holidays.

In addition to urgent care services, the new location will offer four primary care providers, on-site radiology, and once a week there will be a mammogram bus. After the first year, the team is looking to bring in obstetrics (OB) doctors to serve female patients and those planning to give birth at a Trinity Health hospital. The eventual plan is to add lab services to Allendale as well as specialists who would come in periodically—which Ake finds to be a “huge patient satisfier.”

Ake said the four providers even have appointments scheduled for their opening day; however, they won’t be full. There will be availability for walk-in appointments. She added that the team is excited to “grow, grow, grow!”

Though brand new, the Allendale location already is fully staffed. Local team members appreciate the opportunity to work closer to home. “It’s a really good team,” Ake said, “a lot of experience coming in with a strong background in healthcare.”

So, the next time you’re bleeding, sniffling, or just want to see the new facility, stop in. The staff is ready to welcome you.
